Ed Mumma “Mr. Eddy” (1908- 1986)
Ed Mumma was born in 1908 near Cleveland, Ohio. “Mr. Eddy” married in 1936 and had one daughter. He was always cheerful although he was often ill. He moved to Gainesville, FL to be near his daughter after his wife died. He tried to take art lessons but was accused of being “artistically sloppy,” so he stopped. He then began to paint obsessively, painting the same image: an expressionless face. “Mr. Eddy” was a wonderful colorist. His paintings, usually double sided, are self-framed with scrap wood or plastic. He refused to show or sell his paintings in his lifetime.
