Hardin was afflicted with rheumatoid arthritis from childhood. He was confined to a wheelchair. In 1975 he was moved to a federally funded project building in Birmingham, Alabama. It was there he started to draw with crayon, pencil and also paint with acrylic.
Hardin expresses anguish and an inner world only he could fully appreciate. The pain he endured is captured in his colors and subjects.
