Artist Alice Schwager comments on her piece “Spiritual Balance of Masculine and Feminine”

I started this work as usual, working with shapes, images and symbols coming from my unconscious.  Usually after a while, the painting starts to talk to me, telling its own story. 

                  This time the story was about masculinity and femininity, or maybe the right part of the brain and the left, and the balance that should exist everywhere.  Sometimes I cannot explain the symbols in my paintings and it helps a lot to have friends around to tell me what they see in them.

                  I used the round mirrors for the feminine and the curvy lines on the right side- thinking about the right side of the brain- the creative part, but if a man stands in front of it, the balance is produced.  The same with the left part of the piece- square mirrors, straight lines, left part of the brain; the logical- so we need a woman to stand in front of it for the balance. 

I don’t know- you figure it out!  Maybe it is a puzzle.  But in the end, I know I had another message, and this time of bigger proportions.  It was about the balance of masculine and feminine here on earth.

Throughout history male power has overpowered female- just think about the political aspect.  There have been many, many male leaders…so I don’t know if it is the time for many, many female leaders…just a simple Balance maybe, and the world would be different.
